When we think of Umag, tennis is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Fair enough, this summer the tournament once again filled the stands and the town. But once the tennis players pack their bags, Umag remains. That is the Umag we are talking about today.<\/p>\n

We talked to colleagues who live in Umag<\/strong> and asked what to see when you are in town, where to eat, and where to go for a day trip nearby.<\/p>\n

Umag’s history<\/h2>\n

The town sits in the northwest of Istria, only about ten kilometers from the Slovenian border<\/strong>. The story begins long ago, back in antiquity. The Romans<\/strong> discovered this area and turned it into their summer residence. On these ancient foundations grew the settlement of Humagum<\/strong>, which is where the town’s present name comes from.<\/p>\n

Although tourism is the main branch of economy today, Umag still keeps up agriculture, above all olives, tomatoes and grapes, which have always been grown in the area.<\/p>\n
