And after we already introduced you to Pula, it&#8217;s time for another popular tourist town in Istria: <a href=\"https:\/\/villas-guide.com\/en\/villas-in-croatia\/istria\/novigrad\"><strong>Novigrad<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Novigrad is a destination that&#8217;s especially close to our hearts, because this is where <a href=\"https:\/\/gaveia.com\/#section2\"><strong>our story<\/strong><\/a> began, back in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>For this blog post, we talked to colleagues who live in Novigrad and asked them for recommendations on <strong>what to see, what to eat, and where to find the best beaches in Novigrad. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what we found!<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_fccq0xdI3Q?si=B3QX5XdxS9_37ZZk&amp;controls=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: YouTube (Novigrad tourist board)<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. Where to park in Novigrad<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Novigrad&#8217;s old town is a pedestrian zone, so cars are left at one of the car parks on the edge of the centre. We&#8217;ve picked out three tried-and-tested options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Parking by the marina: <\/strong>closest to the old town, paid. The first choice if you&#8217;re heading to dinner in the centre or a walk along the town walls.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parking by the sports hall: <\/strong>paid, a bit further from the centre, but there&#8217;s almost always space. A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coloursofistria.com\/en\/activities\/shuttle-tourist-train\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free shuttle<\/a><\/strong> runs from the sports hall to the centre, which makes this a practical choice in July and August.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gravel car park at the first roundabout at the town entrance:<\/strong>\u00a0free. The largest capacity and the safest choice at the peak of the season; it&#8217;s a short walk to the centre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>2. What to see in Novigrad<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As a historic town, Novigrad has several sights worth visiting. One of the most recognisable is certainly the 19th-century bell tower of <strong>St. Pelagius&#8217; Church<\/strong>, which you can climb for a panoramic view of Novigrad and the sea. The town&#8217;s history is also reflected in its impressive <strong>town walls<\/strong>, which have defended the town for centuries and prove that, despite its name, Novigrad (&#8220;new town&#8221;) is anything but new!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Insider tip:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I would recommend a <strong>leisurely walk along the walls<\/strong>, which is a great way to learn about the city&#8217;s history. Part of the walls is the beautiful Belvedere Loggia overlooking the sea. If you want to learn more about the history of the Novigrad area, visit the <strong>Lapidarium Museum<\/strong>. It has the largest collection of stone monuments, some of which date back to the 1st century.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Marko Bukovac, CTO and co-founder<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Istria wouldn&#8217;t be Istria without olive oil, and if you want to see how it&#8217;s made, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/altorcio.hr\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Al Torcio oil mill<\/strong><\/a>, where you can tour the olive groves, see the harvest, and taste and buy homemade olive oil. Nearby is also the <strong>mouth of the Mirna River<\/strong>, where, besides nature, you can also watch various bird species.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re more interested in concerts and city events, Novigrad has you covered there too. Novigrad with kids<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Novigrad is a town of short distances, which is good news if you&#8217;re travelling with small children. You can get from the beach to the centre and back on foot, no car and no crowds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s where local families spend the day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Shaded playgrounds<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In summer, playgrounds under the trees are the popular choice. The <strong>Lungomare playground<\/strong> is set in a pine forest, with a caf\u00e9 right nearby, so you get a combination of shade, sea, and coffee, all within reach. Another option is the <strong>playground at CMIK<\/strong>. It&#8217;s also shaded and ideal to visit when during hot days.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Punto Mare Fun Zone<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.istra.hr\/en\/destinations\/novigrad\/experience\/3252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Punto Mare<\/a> <\/strong>has <strong>pools<\/strong> for the whole family, a <strong>playground<\/strong>, cocktails, and a snack bar. There&#8217;s also an animation team for all ages: they organise dancing, live music, a show programme and a mini disco several times a week.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cinema at CMIK<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>One of our colleagues recommends taking the kids for a walk down the street with <strong>colourful umbrellas<\/strong>, or to a film screening at the newly renovated cinema at the <a href=\"https:\/\/coloursofistria.com\/en\/activities\/cmik-novigrad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Centre for Events and Culture<\/strong><\/a>, where open-air cartoon screenings are also held in summer. A great option for rainy days and a little break from the sun!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Istralandia<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.istralandia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Istralandia Water Park<\/strong><\/a> o<\/b>ffers more than 20 slides and several different pools. In Novigrad you can visit restaurants and taverns serving fresh seafood and <strong>Istrian specialities<\/strong>. They&#8217;re open throughout the season, every day in the morning hours (come early if you want the best pick of fresh fish). You can plan a tasting as an afternoon trip and still have time for the beach in the morning. Appoint a sober driver or book a taxi service for the whole tour, especially for the way back. Have fun, but responsibly.<\/p>\n<h2><b>5.
